However these files did not come with Win7, so if you have upgraded to Win10 from Win7 or Vista installation which never had a DX update you will need to update DX.

Once you move the file into this location, restart your PC, then attempt to run the software or game that requires DirectX. WebIf this dll is completely missing from your computer you may download it from certain sites (don't know how legal it will be to provide links, just open Google and type "d3dx9_42.dll download for windows 10"). Usually such error means that DirectX was installed wrongly so reinstallation of DirectX or Windows may help (second option is not funny).
