A mordant is the chemical composition that holds the natural dye to the fibre, otherwise you could end up with very washed out colours after exposure to the elements or a wash). The most vibrant and even results were achieved by either mordanting before dyeing or mordanting & dyeing in one pot. I would not use the after mordant dip method at all for this mushroom.
